Laura Peterson, M.D.

Medical Acupuncturist

About Laura

Dr. Peterson is a Lincoln native, and received her BA/BS in Psychology at UNL. She then graduated medical school from UNMC, where she completed one year post graduate training in general surgery at the University of Arizona-Tucson, and 2 1/2  years at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in family and community medicine.

She then returned to “the good life,” where she found herself desiring something different in her medical career. She desired a more meaningful way to help patients then her previous training had provided. She wanted to connect more deeply with patients, while still providing effective treatment. Her interest in acupuncture began after she experienced a treatment herself. She was absolutely amazed with the results and efficacy of the treatments, thus beginning her acupuncture journey.

Dr. Peterson recently completed the medical acupuncture for physicians specialty training course through the Helms Medical Institute. While at this training program, she learned acupuncture techniques for a variety of pain and stress-related disorders such as anxiety, GI disturbances, and sleep disorders, among many other concerns. Learn more about the Helms Medical Institute here.

She’s very excited for her new journey in her medical practice, and is happy to be sharing it with her hometown community.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, attending bbqs and swimming in the warm months, going to the farmers market and watching movies.

What is integrative medicine?
