About Tara

Tara Russell, Licensed Massage Therapist, is Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (BCTMB®), and a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). After completing her initial 1000-Hr Massage Therapy Diploma Program in 2007, Tara immediately continued her education to obtain an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Massage Therapy from Universal College of Healing Arts in Omaha. Dedicated to enhancing her skills, Tara has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education, and has extensive knowledge and experience in a variety of massage techniques including Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Thai Yoga Massage, Integrative Reflexology, Medical Massage, Sports Massage, Lymphatic Massage for Detoxification, and Access Bars.

In addition to her private practice, Tara is a contracted massage therapist at a manufacturing company, providing weekly on-site therapeutic massage to support employee health and wellness. There, she works alongside a wellness team consisting of two nurses and a physical therapist, providing treatment, maintenance and prevention of repetitive stress and other job-related injuries. She also provides on-site employee chair massage to a variety of local businesses, hospitals, schools and non-profit organizations.

Throughout her career, Tara has collaborated with massage therapists, physical therapists, nurses, fitness and yoga instructors, mental health practitioners, and other mind-body focused professionals to bring the best care to every individual. These experiences with multiple disciplines have offered her more knowledge and insight, with which she has gained a broader perspective on the human experience of stress, pain and trauma.

Tara has been blessed with great mentors throughout her career. During her initial diploma program, she completed some of her required treatment hours at BJ’s Crossing Country-Spa-Retreat in Denton, NE. BJ Dennis, LMT, was very informative and provided a great foundation for Tara to launch her career from. Immediately after Tara obtained her massage license, Valdeen Nelsen, MPA, LMT, provided Tara with her first experience as a contract massage therapist in an industrial setting, substituting for Valdeen regularly. Their partnership continued to blossom both in private practice, as well as sharing another contract providing employee chair massage for a local hospital. Diana Den Beste, LMT, was one of Tara’s teachers in both the diploma and associates’ programs at Universal College of Healing Arts, Omaha. After Tara graduated, Diana continued to mentor her, offering valuable feedback while Tara practiced and enhanced her skills in advanced myofascial techniques. In 2013, Tara opened Lincoln Yoga Center’s first massage studio. During her time there, she had the privilege of learning a variety of yoga and other mind-body practices, including participating in several 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and Take 5 classes, taught by Sheila Palmquist, owner of Lincoln Yoga Center and founder of Take 5. Tara utilizes this knowledge daily in her work and personal life. Continuing the tradition, Tara has mentored several new and upcoming massage therapists herself, and she loves to share her knowledge and learned experiences with them.

A life-time student, and student of life, Tara blends her knowledge, experience and intuition to create a massage specifically to meet the individual needs of her clients. From a lighter, more subtle energy work to a deeper, more focused and specific work, she regularly helps clients to relieve tension, calm the nervous system, improve flexibility, increase range of motion and return balance to tense, overused and traumatized muscle tissues. The benefits of massage on mind, body and spirit are abundant. Tara is passionate about taking an integrative approach to promote overall balance and well-being for her clients. Outside of working in her passion and purpose, Tara enjoys spending time with family and friends, being out in nature, yoga, meditation and of course, receiving bodywork for herself. Tara is thrilled to continue her journey with mind.body.balance.

What is integrative medicine?

Integrative medicine is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative.
